The traditional wooden Goiter

Il gozzo tradizionale in legno

The marina of Acquamorta in Monte di Procida is still a place where the practice of slow sailing enjoys excellent health. In fact, in the dock it is still well represented the category of traditional wooden Goiters that, descendants of the Neapolitan tradition of the 'Luciana', have taken on specific characteristics in Monte di Procida for the geomorphology of the coasts and for the prevailing types of fishing. Many of these goiters are armed with Latin sail and represent a point of contact with a recent past that saw the birth of the shipowning fleet of Monte di Procida, which reached its peak in the 70’s/80’s, just as the evolution of the propulsion sail goiter, with which the pozzolana and the wine produced locally were transported by sea from Acquamorta, first to the nearby islands and then further and further away.

Nowadays, Latin sailing is practiced as evocative of belonging to the past and tradition, as well as as a practice of higher difficulty but able to return the well-being of slow and light navigation. On a rowing or sailing goiter you can experience the beautiful experience of feeling in suspension of time. In synergy with the associations and the community it has been advanced the candidacy to Intangible Patrimony of the collective Campania tied to the small traditional wooden navy of Monte di Procida.
